Yeah, the smoking sucks right now, definitely kicking my ass! I'm gearing up for another quit (gearing up = putting off), but soon. I think this weekend will be good b/c I will be busy and can distract myself.

You can do it! Eat healthy things all the time and you will be less likely to have the junk food I've had chocolates in the house for a month and haven't touched 'em, though that would probably be a different story if that was cheese :)

Great job w/ the work outs, but be careful with the knee!

my work outs have been great lately.. the knee is still awful, but i've been working through the pain.
my diet on the other hand is going to change starting tomorrow. i haven't had any consecutive days where i haven't eaten any junk. tomorrow is the start to my diet again, and i am going to lose 5-10 lbs by my birthday on march 7th.

i can say no to junk food, i just need to remember how haha.

Hi, J.

I just added some, (hopefully), inspiration to the thread you made on the subject, (with the added bonus of a warm fuzzy), so here's hoping that you already have your most cool mojo workin' again.

Nowhere to go from here, but to-----well----somewhere else... (via a jog perhaps? ; )

(Have you de-evil-snacked your cupboards yet?)

post holiday blues? ya it wasn't too bad for me cuz I already live home.. but we hosted parties and went to parties.. all of which consisted with us having dessert and lots of it in our fridge...

which we would have like everyday, I was counting my calories and not moving around too much and oo I was scared.

10th Jan '08 03:58:56
well, i've pretty much brought myself back to where i started. two weeks and my pants that were once falling off, barely fit. also, hurt my knee really bad. i guess my body is telling me to stop eating so much, then killing myself exercising to break even.
so here i am, back at the beginning, hurt knee, and broken spirited.

i guess tomorrow is the day to start restricting the calories, making better choices and stop making excuses to cheat.
no more.

i was going good all week, but today i went home, and even though i had a great workout in the morning, i ate wayyy too much crap tonight. oreos, ice cream, brownie, tostidos, ahh haha. snack attackkkk! tomorrow i will not snack. i will do much better.

starting right now, 12:56am, Monday, December 3rd, I am going to get back on track to reach my goals and stop slipping and cheating. No more ice cream, or cookies, or candy (especially candy), and more exercise and focus on my school work instead of food and weight. I have let it encompass my mind and days and I cannot allow that any longer. There is more to life than being skinny and food, and I need to realize that. So, as of right now, no more complaining, more doing, and focusing on other, more important things, such as school work.
nice.

oh I'm 5'3" so ya 112lbs for you would NOT be a healthy weight at all..
Jessipoo .
30th Nov '07 16:24:56
I LOVE X'mas! I never got gifts for my bday so x'mas has always been THE holiday. And everyone is together.. just great, and I love snow.

ya going to NYC with my 2 sisters for fun. Been wanting to go to NYC forever! I know it'll be stressful with all the holiday shoppers but I can't WAIT!!!

I'm going between my finals lol oh well. totally worth it, not on my wallet but will be worth it.

and how tall are you?
I thought 112lbs would be so low for me but I still look fine. I might dip down to 110lbs soon though, I've been dieting for a couple of months it's difficult for me to eat my normal ways, I feel guilty. so weird.

But with the holidays coming up, I know it'll be struggle to stay healthy.

tell me how it goes with HIIT.
Jessipoo .
30th Nov '07 14:48:54
well I have a cheaper elleptical than the gym, obviously, so I don't know the equivalence of my resistance, anyways I find it easier to get my heart rate up via some resistance than purely going super fast on the elleptical, plus my elleptical is small and the build is so so so it squeaks and all when I go to fast, scary.

Ya one minute faster- jogging equivalent when running with weights
one minute slower - walking equivalent with weights

if you have a heart rate monitor, it helps cuz you know if you're "hiiting" (get it?) the numbers or not, oo witty.
Jessipoo .
30th Nov '07 06:27:44
wow I'm totally invading your wall..
Jessipoo .
30th Nov '07 06:26:06
I love chocolate. Have it almost everyday, can't live without my snacks!!!

So for HIIT, I run, but now it's winter I have managed to use the elleptical and finally acheive HIIT on it properly!

I do 1:1 intervals, 10-12 of them, total duration of workout: 30-40 minutes

I use resistance at the same time which helps get my cardio up faster without it feeling too cardio-ish if that makes sense. like I use 3lbs weights while running and so I'm actually just jogging but it gets my HR way up, and when I walk it stays in the 80 zone.

And for elleptical, I put the resistance to 5 (out of 10) and every minute, I pump my legs stronger and faster to get my HR up for the minute, then slow down, then do it over.

Hope that helps!
Jessipoo .
25th Nov '07 16:22:24
I know what you mean by feeling like you gained 10lbs.. I eat snacks a lot throughout the day but they are always so tiny so that when you add them up it might make up like 300 calories for my day. But I eat so much of so little that just the number of different things that go in my mouth makes me feel like I overloaded on junk food and that I went overboard...

when in reality I just had like a piece of chocolate, small cracker, etc.
Jessipoo .
25th Nov '07 16:18:08
ya anyways I'm going for 4 days (3 complete days actually) so I don't think it'll be too bad, I think I may gain 1lbs back but I'll really try cutting on my portions, which'll be hard cuz we won't doggie bag them and I'll be paying for my (I think'll be expensive meals) straight out of my pocket every single time (I'm used to bringing my lunches and not paying for them..)

but I will have fun! I'll just have to make sure I snowboard a couple of times afterwards to make up for it.
Jessipoo .
25th Nov '07 03:17:17
I'm so close to my goal (1.6lbs away) but I'm scared that my trip to NYC in less than a month will sabotage it, in fact I know I will.

No exercise eating out every meal snacking at nice cafes (not Starbucks or anything) booze = weight gain!

thank god it's only for 4 days, I might get 1lbs back which won't be tooooo bad...

Jessipoo .
11th Nov '07 16:40:12
wow that's amazing 15lbs in 1-2 months, I'm close to losing that much but in about 3 months, I lost 7lbs in 1.5 months then school started and slowed down a looootttt, still losing now just slower..
Jessipoo .
10th Nov '07 15:44:23
wow I don't know how you eat so little and workout so much... you should up your calories if your trying to burn fat... your body can't functin properly when it's too low on fuel and you'll just be working out that hard for nothing.

I know it doesn't sound logical but you might see the fat burn more when you eat a little more.

hey what's up. yeah, it's hard to eat properly with boyfriends. they burn more calories , but expect us to eat the same crappy food they do. The guilt thing was from not exercising AND not eating anything at the casino (lost my taste for food being around smoke) no wonder the cigarrette company marketed themselves as virginia slims. sure is an appetite suppressant.

so, i finally got the courage up to weigh myself, and it wasn't too bad. i was hoping it would be a little lower, but with the past two weeks, i understand where it's at. now my job is to keep weighing myself consistently that way i can better gage my success.
A few things to work on:
less granola and carbs
more protein/veggies throughout the day, not just at dinner
cut down on the nightime snacking (preferrably no snacks after 9pm)
not overdoing it on exercising-toning down on my legs.

Jocelyn,

Thanks for the comments on my profile page. I really like having you there to encourage me. I want to do the same for you.

You said you walked during your run the other day. Just not feeling it something. Here's a BIG TIP: walking is good thing! It's perfectly fine to run for x minutes, then walk for 1 min. In fact, when I trained for my first marathon, on the long runs I walked for 1 min. every 10 min. Now, when I do a long run, I walk a minute every 30-40 mins. It feels great to rest, and then start again. Keep walking - even the best runners in the world walk-run.

Dave: I agree.

Dave Nicholson
18th Oct '07 13:20:33
hmmm.... I think that putting this much emphasis on calories is a bit counter-productive... Considering it takes 3500 calories just to burn a pound, a couple hundred is pretty insignificant. If you're eating well and exercising, the emphasis should be on performance and how you feel - the rest will really fall into place. Thinking about that day you pigged out, even if you had 2000 calories, which is about 800 over normal (from the diet chart), you're only 1/4 of the way to gaining a pound for the week!

And Herb, I think you're right about those traineo estimates! However, they are useful in tracking a "baseline" of how much you exercise. When calories aren't as significant you can consider how you are exercising relative to how you were exercising.
Herb Morreale
17th Oct '07 20:25:56
I spent a bit of time building a calorie calculator for running. Looking back at Jessipoo's post, I have to agree. I think 38 mins is more around 425 cals (estimate), not 600.

Maybe you're using the Traineo estimates? They're way off IMHO. I would say that a good back of the napkin is just over 100 cals/mile. I've confirmed that with several running sites. My own calculation is a bit more specific to include effort, but the back of the napkin works well enough most the time.

The only reason this matters much is that if you are trying to make sure you burn x calories/week I would hate to see you think you are doing more than you are.

OMG, I forgot about Thanksgiving! I'm going to have to do cardio straight through the weekend :)
Jessipoo .
11th Oct '07 00:23:47
ya your thanksgiving is like a month and half away or something, isn't end November? my cousin will come from the States to visit us then hm...

how are you tracking your calories? running for 38 minutes and burnt 600 calories.. I don't know.. I'm doing HIIT intensly and I burnt 300 in 35 minutes (which is the most I burnt) and I'm using a heart rate monitor so I know my numbers are close to accurate.
Jocelyn Coutant
10th Oct '07 04:26:05
I had a really good day today, didn't eat too little, didn't eat too much. I also ran for 35 minutes, which isn't the 55 i would like to see, but none the less, it was a solid amount of time. I also went to the gym, and although got a little sidetracked when a friend came to talk to me, i still had a pretty good workout. :-)

so today i ran more than i ever ran, farther and longer (on my own of course, i ran like crazy in soccer). i am very proud, but it had to be done because yesterday when i got home (i went home from college for columbus day) i definitely snacked wayyy too much and went a bit crazy. i dont' think i got to 2000 calories however, i did not exercise and it was not good for my body to get that much food in so few hours. oh well. today i've been very good so far. an apple, a couple slices of ham/turkey wrapped around cerely, a couple bites of cottage cheese and a granola bar. :-)

oh, honey, i know! mid terms are approaching. For me too. I do admit that feeling sore all the time and waking up a full 2 and a half hours earlier is making me bitchy during the day. Don't be envious of me just yet... I've only started and you've been doing pretty well with yourself for a good time now. I was lucky I fell asleep in that sauna rather than in class. For now, I'm still motivated to do the work... but when I see those digits fluctuate up and down, I get really disappointed and I don't know why it's cause for concern even though I know it might just be one of those days I retain more water than normal. Last effort, I actually worked out at least 6 days a week (before I got acute bronchitis and pneumonia), I lost 8 pounds in one month and to me, that was great, except I got sick for 2 months after that and gained it back. I'm told not to stress so much about the future (e.g. exams and such) and do something rather than dwell on it during the times I can't do anything about it. It's harder for me to be complacent than most. I'm trying to fix that too. :) Good luck on the exams! Gnight. -g

hi jocelyn. With you exercising everyday, I can find someone to look up to with that... I mean, that's a form of discipline and I want to do that myself; the trouble is waking up to want to get off that comfy bed and dress to sweat. As for not eating enough, I was thinking maybe multivitamins can help counter that. It can also help with the appetite. trust me, couple of times, I took diet pills having to supplement them with multivitamins... (i don't know if I'll succumb to taking pills again after experienced so much side effects from them) it seems that I got hungrier more often with the vitamins. the true problem is finding the right foods to eat when we're hungry. Just think, it seems that all the ready made foods are bad, and all the harder to prepare stuff (more effort than necessary)are good. Especially living with a family that pretty much eats "whatever", a diet is hard to control (or in your case, you have someone that loves to treat/spoil you ;)) so yeah. Maybe having to get thoughts out there about it, I can relearn how to take care of myself since I've concentrated on taking care of others first, I pushed it aside for too long. I'm officially starting tomorrow. Thanks for adding me!
Jessipoo .
21st Sep '07 02:25:39
your calories are too low, I suggest adding 200 to make it closer to 1400. I did the low calorie thing 1200-1300 a day and for a week, I didn't get any results (I was burning 200-300 daily at that time).

I think the calories are too low (I don't know all your info though) that your metabolism is slowing down and hanging onto the fat, so you're basically semi starving yourself for nothing.

Er, i'm sorry babe! It sucks you got sick just when you where about to have fun-I got sick to a bit before volleyball tryouts-I still kinda am with the same thing you have. O, I made the team :D Varsity baby! But I still need a lot of work to do. I manage to maintain my weight for awhile but then my mom went to Sam's club and i ate my butt and my gut on. lol I hear you about the goals thing. I start school back up this Monday and I think that might help me alot with my weight loss. And since I don't really come home 'till like 7 because of volleyball practice.

Oh my carnival weekend was kind of a bummer but I did get to see alot of my friends. I had alot of fun. And the only bad thing I ate was a funnel cake.

Well i'm sorry it took centeries to write back babe. I hope everything is cool by your end.

Don't we all have the problem of having to eat when meeting with friends, family, etc.? You just have to schedule these meals. Either you try to stick to healthy things like salad etc or you have to eat less this day so you do not have to do without a great dinner. You can also eat less the day before or after, so you are happy with your average calories for both days.
